haploid gametophyte generation alternates with a diploid sporophyte

The family resort
Andy loves plants, especially orchids.  So this past weekend, on our way upstate to the family resort, we stopped at Carter and Holmes Orchid Nursery.
Newberry South Carolina

Carter and Holmes Orchids (since 1947)

I like binomial nomenclature.
I enjoy rattling off scientific names instead of common names.
I cherish sharing the same interests as my spouse.

With that being stated, I really try to get excited about plants but it's like birds- I just can't seem to get into it.
While we were there LDC practiced her colors and...

Andy explained to me which ones were multigeneric hybrids or AM/AOS award or clonal or cultivars.

I definitely admired their beauty, while we were touring the nursery, but maybe when I am 50 years old plants and birds will excite me.  Don't get me wrong.  I like plants and birds but 50 seems the age when folks get excited about Class Aves and Family Orchidaceae.

Drum #2 part 2

The weekend was full of sawdust and constant noise, pouring out of the garage, from all the tools.
The end result was a BEAUTIFUL stave construction of an ashiko drum.

Coming this spring...Part III.

Old and New Traditions

For the past 12 years my Valentine has treated me to a heart shaped pizza, on the 14th of February.

So the laid back tradition continued on this year...  Me sipping on an adult beverage while Andy rattles off different topping choices that I pick from.

The new tradition this year was LDC going to a Valentine's Day party and me having to bring food.  What is the above picture?  Ladybugs on a Stick.
They were a hit but obviously if this Ladybug on a Stick tradition continues, I am going to have to work on my ladybug making skills and come up with some craftier green leaves.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night

Black table cloths

Only the finest chilled chocolate milk will do

Classical musical for these little ears to enjoy

And of course what Daddy-Daughter dinner would be complete without the option of a limo ride, with the Chick-fil-A cow.
